I have always been a huge advocate for Spirulina!
Everyone can benefit from this amazing green sea algae! It has approx 60% protein per 100gms, over 100 micro and macro nutrients, full of chlorella (for glowing hair, skin and eyes) and is used by athletes for energy and muscle recovery.
Did you know, Spirulina has:
300% more CALCIUM than whole milk
2300% more IRON than spinach
3900% more BETA CAROTENE than carrots
375% more PROTEIN than tofu
Also:
- Three grams Spirulina has more antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity than five servings of vegetables.
- Comparing phytonutrient levels is 31 times more potent than blueberries, 60 times more potent than spinach and 700 times more potent than apples.
My favourite Green Smoothie
-1 cup kale or baby spinach
-2 tsp spirulina
-1 banana
-3 dates, pitted
-1/2 cup frozen blueberries
-Water from 1 coconut
-1/2 cup water
-1 tsp raw cacao powder
Blend in a high powered blender until smooth

Just a quick friendly mention: you may not want to put cacao with all the green yummy stuff, as the cacao contains oxalates which will prevent the absorption of a lot of the minerals esp iron and calcium from the greens. 🙂
